The title of this article is indicative of the times we live in today. More taxes, more regulation. And if it's not enough, even more new taxes and more new regulation. Creeping socialism and neo-marxism is finding its way into our societies without slightest regard for what the majority of people actually want. Not that our elected representatives would ask anyway. And so we are losing our freedoms bit by bit, here in the EU and in US as well. What we can say, what we can do, what we can think (think of thought police on social media). Didn't all totalitarian regimes started with the promises of solving the greatest ills of humanity - be it poverty, inequality, economy? Now it is the environment. Once we were told that the technology and innovation will sort out these problems. In time. Gradually. No revolution but evolution. And I still believe they will! But the human creativity and ingenuity always blossomed the most in places where the freedom was unrestricted. Great Ludwig von Mises once observed: "Progress is precisely that which rules and regulations did not foresee." It was valid then, it is valid today and it will be valid as long as our Earth will be orbiting the Sun. Have a great day!

In Canada, at least Ontario where I live, sturdy reusable bags are the norm. In addition to the ones I paid about $5 for, which have lasted for more than 5 years, they are also standard parts of the bling one gets at a conference, so we have more than enough reusable bags that are far more sturdy than plastic. They live in the front hallway and the trunk (boot!) of the car. I always feel like a bad citizen when I forget to bring them to the store. Some are coming to the end of their long life and they will go into the recycling. I’m surprised they are less popular across the pond. But at 29£ each, no wonder! Seems like a business opportunity for an enterprising Canadian:-)
