I can confirm the pain of instantly being informed by my bank that my purchase has been booked, and of each and every purchase being transparent on my bank account statement.

Not really THAT surprising imo. Boomers have an emotional attachment to coins and paper money, hence parting with coins and paper moneys results in emotional pain.
GenZ or "digital natives" have no emotional attachment to physical coins but already embrace their digital wallet, hence digital flows in and out of their wallet probably result in emotional stimuli.
The fact that the mobile shows your balance and or you get a short message reinforcing your wallets balance obviously impact the stimulus, very cool but also not that surprising if you just think about it.
